Ask The Expert:

Robert Luther, Jr DMD

 Q. What is involved in getting a dental implant?

A. When a person is interested in replacing one or more missing teeth, the dentist may suggest replacement with an implant. In fact, implants are considered the standard of care for replacement of teeth which have been lost due to decay, periodontal disease or trauma. Many general dentists place implants at their own offices, while others may refer their implant patients for the surgical aspect to an oral surgeon or periodontist.

HEALTH TIP:

Six ways you can eliminate acid reflux and heartburn

1. Avoid "balanced" meals.

2. Separate carbohydrates and proteins or proteins/fats during meals.

3. Avoid refined, processed and packaged foods that usually consist of these heartburn-causing combinations.

4. Eat smaller meals.

5. Eat one type of food per meal: either a fruit meal, vegetable meal, protein meal or protein/fat meal is ideal. 6. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Thirst is often disguised as hunger.
