The Washington Hospital Breastfeeding Support Group
For pregnant women, mothers who are currently breastfeeding, fathers and siblings. Last Monday each month (except December) from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Community Room The Washington Hospital. Register by calling (724) 250-4476.
Breastfeeding Class - Monday, January 30 from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. at the Mon-Vale HealthPLEX. This free class is designed for mothers who plan to breastfeed to help them feel more comfortable and confident while in the hospital after delivery and when returning home. Many props are used in this class including breast pumps. Partners and grandmothers are welcome and encouraged to attend. For more information, call 724-258-BABY (2229).
Introduction to Breastfeeding
Location: Community Ed. Classroom, 5th Floor, St. Clair Hospital
Cost: $40 per person or $50 per couple
Led by a lactation consultant, Introduction to Breastfeeding is designed to facilitate a woman's choice to breastfeed. The "why and how" of breastfeeding are discussed, along with emphasis on positioning baby, latching on, breast care, the father's role, returning to work and breastfeeding challenges. Participants are given the opportunity to ask questions, as well as view breast pumps, nursing bras and additional nursing accessories. Classes offered monthly. Depression and Seasonal Affective Disorder
Join Monongahela Valley Hospital's new psychiatrist Amanda M. Rush, M.D., when she discusses depression and seasonal affective disorder (SAD) at MVH's free community Innovations in Medicine lecture series in February and March. Dr. Rush will discuss SAD on Thursday, February 9, at the hospital's Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center. She will repeat this Innovations presentation on Thursday, March 1, at the Mon-Vale HealthPLEX at WillowPointe Plaza on Route 51 in Rostraver. Ski/Sporting Clays Fundraiser for Blind & Vision
Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh
Diann Roffe, an Olympic gold medalist in the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway, and a world champion ski competitor, will be featured at the 2012 Corporate Cup Ski Race and Sporting Clays to benefit Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh (BVRS) on Friday, February 10 at Seven Springs Mountain Resort. BVRS Plans Safety Training Class for Visually Impaired
Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh's (BVRS) next New Outlook class on skills and techniques for seniors and others interested in tips for living safely in the home with vision loss starts Wednesday, March 7. Training in a variety of adaptive skills and techniques is offered one day each week from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for six weeks. Scheduling is flexible, and the class is free for individuals who qualify. For more information on the New Outlook class or to register, call (412) 368-4400.
